Free pattern for making baby headband(bumper)

I got tired of seeing my 8 months-old twins accidentally banging their heads against the floor and the wall, so I invented a simple stuff headband which I called “head bumper” for them. I thought it might be helpful to some other frustrated parents as well. So I’d like to share my idea with everyone out there who has a small baby or toddler. I found it was very helpful keeping the girls head protected. I used simple materials that I could find in my sewing room. Use your imagination and be creative. I’m pretty sure that you can come up with a prettier one than mine.

Materials

– Fabric of your choice, best to use felt fabric because of its softness and it usually comes in pretty colors and patterns.

– 1 inch or 2 inch width elastic band

– Quilt liner (the one that makes quilt looks puffy)

– Tape measuring

– Sewing machine or needle and thread if you sew this by hand

Direction

– Measure your baby head circumference. I would give this number = “x”. Cut fabric into rectangle piece of “X” length by 7 inches width. For example if your measurement is 16 inches, you would cut the fabric into 16 inches by 7 inches.

– Cut quilt liner in the same manner as 1.

– Fold fabric in half lengthwise and with right sides together. Sew piece together with 1/2 inch seam allowance. Turn piece inside out. It’ll look like a small tube.

– Fold quilt liner 1/3 lengthwise twice. Slowly stuff them inside the fabric tube. If you think the liner is not puffy enough, you can add another piece to it at this point. Sew both end of tube.

– Cut elastic band into 3 inches. Stitch each end of elastic band to each end of the tube. And Voila!! You have your first hand-made baby head band.

I hope you will get some use out of it. I am so glad if this will help save a bruise or two to any cutie one. It doesn’t hurt to believe in prevention!
